About a year ago It seemed everywhere I turned someone had their vehicle wrapped in vinyl. Now I don’t see it as much (or maybe because I’m in the office all day). I’m not against vinyl wrapped cars, I think for particular situations they work great and can be very effective. However, what I never understood is how someone can justify to spend $3,000-$5,000 dollars on a vehicle wrap and not have a website?
Even with our economic crisis, e-commerce spending continues to grow. Online retailers were smiling last year as they rang up 4% more in sales for the holiday season than in 2008, according to comScore’s final tally. Americans spent $29 billion online between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31 last year. The highest spending day in web history took place on Tuesday, Dec 15, when $913 million poured onto the internet, the first time daily spending exceeded the $900 million mark.
I often get asked if I know any “tricks” or ways to improve search engine rankings. I ask the person to let me look at their website and see what has been done from an SEO point of view. It doesn’t surprise me but I see a lot of title tags as “Index” or “Home”. My response is usually “have you read Google’s Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide?” 9 out of 10 people will respond “what’s that?”
Google’s Street View goes off road and into places where most people don’t often travel. It’s very exciting to see the imagery that is captured and how far Google is willing to take Street View to the next level. Who knows, maybe we will be able to climb Mount Everest in the safe place of our home or walk The Great Wall of China one day?
Planning an effective internet marketing strategy can be difficult and confusing at times. I’ve seen a lot of web development companies and “SEO experts” that just pick and choose from this menu. Clients hear about the next big thing and want on-board regardless if they really need it or not. Today’s marketing mix has it’s own challenges. Blogs, YouTube Videos, RSS Feeds, Podcasts, it all sounds so yummy and delicious, just like fast food. But we all know what fast food leads to.
Remember the days where you had to wait 1 hour to download a 640×480 .jpg? That didn’t last too long, then came the 56k modem and that was revolutionary technology. Years later we were introduced to DSL and Cable modem. And just a a few years ago Verizon came out with FIOS which is extremelly fast and can reach download speeds of up to 50MB per second.
Costco has joined forces with Velox Wheels to sell aftermarket wheels for cars, trucks and SUV’s. A few months ago we were contacted to help in the development of the Costco wheel program. In collaboration with Store Machine, we were able to create a wheel upgrade program that allows customers to easily buy new wheels in 4 easy steps. Costco is always looking for ways to facilitate the customers buying experience and Web Design Lab was able to assist. To see the wheel site we help develop visit Costco’s Velox Wheel, you can always go to www.costco.com and search for “Velox Wheels” or go to the automotive section on Costco’s website.

If your a business owner looking to save money and increase profits, now is the time to re-think your marketing efforts and make a real change. I’ve been ask “if you could only pick 3 ways to market your business using the internet how would you do it?” Looking at my years of experience and seeing what has worked well I would say these would be my pick.
Whoever said “there’s no such thing as a free lunch” was probably right and remains true. However, Denny’s thinks otherwise. Although Denny’s is not giving away a free lunch meal, they are instead offering a free Grand Slam Breakfast on February 9, 2010 from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Denny’s estimated that over 2 million people took advantage of this great offer last year in 2009 and expects to bring in more customers this year.
